Dr. Steven J. Cyr is a Board Certified Orthopaedic Surgeon who has dedicated his career to the delicate science of spine surgery. As a Mayo Clinic-trained spine surgeon, he has gained a reputation for correcting complex conditions of the musculoskeletal system with outcomes rarely seen in this demanding field. He specializes in complicated spine conditions and has gained notoriety for successful repairs of failed surgeries on patients from numerous states and around the world.
Dr. Cyr received top honors at Southwest Texas State University, graduating Summa Cum Laude and Valedictorian with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. In addition to rigorous academics, he was a member of the Bobcat football team during his three years at SWTSU. He gained early acceptance into medical school and earned his M.D. from the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio.
He began his service in the United States Air Force with a transitional internship at Wilford Hall Medical Center, then served as a flight surgeon for two years before completing his residency in orthopaedic surgery at Wilford Hall.

Following residency, Dr. Cyr was chosen from among the country's top residents as the sole fellow for the highly competitive combined Orthopaedic and Neurosurgical spine surgery fellowship at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota. This program has ranked number one for orthopaedic and neurosurgical training in America for more than 20 years, combining both disciplines to give surgeons an understanding of nerve and spine function unparalleled by other programs.
His surgical precision allows him to safely perform surgeries near the spinal cord and delicate nerves of the spine as well as the major blood vessels throughout the body. His training and character keep him at the leading edge with outcomes rarely seen in the delicate field of spine surgery.
Military Leadership & Innovation
Upon completing his fellowship, Dr. Cyr served the military community as Chief of Air Force Spine Surgery and Spine Surgery Consultant to the Surgeon General of the Air Force and the Pentagon. He taught orthopaedic surgery residents, physician assistant fellows, and medical students at Wilford Hall and The Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences for six years.
Dr. Cyr deployed twice to Iraq, where he served war-wounded soldiers and civilian casualties at the Air Force Theater Hospital in Balad. He brought innovative techniques to the military, becoming the first surgeon to perform total disc replacement and endoscopic spinal surgery in a military setting.
